In the Philippines - a country with 7,107 islands - how do you help indigent people see better when they have no access to eye care and no money to pay for it?  You bring the mobile eye clinic to them!

Eyecare Wecare Foundation, based in the United States, is a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, Christian centered organization, that does medical vision missions and provides eye examinations, eyeglasses, eye and general medications, and provides for eye surgeries; all at no cost to the prescreened indigents.  A 40-foot bus equipped with vision care equipment and supplies is housed in the Philippines to facilitate travel between many of the country’s islands.  The foundation has a branch office in the Philippines that is registered with the Philippine government and is currently conducting all of the vision clinics there.  The foundation’s target population is the rural poor who do not have access to, nor financial resources for, vision services.  The foundation has no paid administrators or staff --- everyone volunteers.

Look at the photos of recent trips: www.eyecarewecare.org

The foundation’s last mission was its 19th Medical Vision Mission April 2015 in Makati, near Metro Manila, Philippines.  A total of 25,333 people have received free eyeglasses since 2005 and 500 cataract surgeries have been done.  The foundation is living up to its motto:  "Delivering God’s Ultimate Vision Plan to the Poor."  For the past eight years, the Weyrichs have gone twice yearly to the Philippines.

Volunteers such as the three primary physicians and their friends who went on a mission last year pay their own way.  The budget may be down, but the need is definitely up.  When missions first began, the average number of patients seen daily was around 70.  Now it’s as many as 400.  The joy of patients is priceless. “No one can put that experience into words,” says Weyrich.

Now the mobile clinic is in urgent need of repairs.  The years of travel and exposure to the elements have resulted in needs for repair, repainting, tires, etc, for a total of some $6000.  All contributions are welcome regardless of the amount and will go only to repair of the bus.

Volunteers are always needed but must provide their own financial support for this rewarding service.

Thank you for the gift of sight to the indigent citizens of the Philippines!
